Meet the Founder

A Simple Habit Changed My Life

Fifteen years ago, I was in one of the darkest seasons of my life.

One simple habit helped me: writing positive affirmations on index cards and reading them every day.

Years later, while standing in the shower, an idea came to me.

What if I could turn those handwritten cards into a deck of affirmations that could bring hope to other people?

& What if I made them beautiful?

That single idea became my very first affirmation deck and the beginning of Herstory Goods.

THE RESEARCH

The Science of Hope

Some days, we all need a reminder that better days are still ahead.

The words you tell yourself matter. Research shows our brains naturally pay more attention to negative experiences than positive ones. This is called the negativity bias, and it can make it easy to lose sight of hope when life feels overwhelming.

That's why small moments of encouragement matter.

Reading one positive affirmation each day gives you a chance to quiet negative self-talk and replace it with words that remind you of your strength, your resilience, and the possibility that there is still a way forward.

What Is Hope Theory?

Psychologist C. R. Snyder developed Hope Theory after years of studying how people overcome life's challenges.

His research suggests that people with higher levels of hope are more likely to:

Use encouraging self-talk

Find another way when obstacles appear

Stay motivated during difficult seasons

Keep moving toward their goals

Every step forward begins with one hopeful thought.

Hopeful thinking is linked with:

Researchers have found these associations across multiple studies.*

Lower levels of anxiety

Lower levels of depression

Greater life satisfaction

Better emotional well-being

Healthier behaviors

More effective coping during difficult times

Having hopeful thoughts doesn't mean pretending life is easy.

Positive affirmations won't erase a difficult situation.

But they can interrupt a spiral of negative thinking, help your brain reconnect with memories of past resilience and success, and make the next step feel possible.
